All works are roughly 20 x 20cm with a deckled edge, and signed at the back by Annie Ashwell.
My works on paper took inspiration from a commission I completed in 2024. This time, I decided not to take the paint right to the edges of the paper. I was curious about what might happen if the composition felt more like an island — like we’re floating with these vivid, otherworldly colours and mark-making, in a space that isn’t structured or fixed. I also chose to keep the edges rough rather than a clean cut. It felt important to leave room for defaults, blemishes and cracks — for the unpredictable and the non-conforming.
